Some blue green algae samples on the Treasure Coast are toxic, according to the Florida Department of Environmental Protection.
It found an elevated toxin level at the St. Lucie River at Central Marine Marina.
The resultsare from samples taken the week of June 27.
In addition, the St. Lucie Inlet near Sandsprit Park “also had a toxin level slightly above the World Health Organization’s low-risk level for adverse health outcomes of 10 micrograms/liter.”
The algae tested in Palm Beach County were not toxic.
Health experts urge swimmers to avoid water that is discolored or where a visible bloom is present.
