A sandhill crane chick is recovering after it was found along a road Saturday in Martin County.
The chick was taken to the Treasure Coast Wildlife Hospital in Palm City after a driver saw it alone on Pratt Whittney Road in Stuart.
The Martin County Sheriff’s Office said they want to remind residents that this is the time of year when sandhill crane chicks are hatching.
Sandhill cranes mate for life and have a wing span of about 5-feet. The birds can live about 20 to 25 years.
