A Martin County commissioner wants both presidential candidates to see the algae crisis.

Commissioner John Haddox wants to start a petition to bring Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton to the Treasure Coast.

He decided to take action after President Obama denied a federal emergency declaration.

The commissioner says this is a national issue not just a Florida issue.

"State of Florida is a key state and we are a key area that they could come here visit and address the issue and let us know where they stand," Haddox said.

The commissioner plans to bring the petition to the commission next Tuesday.
