16 people are in custody after a report that migrants were seen landing on Jupiter Island, according to the Martin County Sheriff's Office.
The migrants came ashore just before 10 a.m. on the north side of the Island, the sheriff's office said.
Eight women, six men and two children are in custody.
One of the women is pregnant and was taken to a hospital for observation.
The sheriff's office said it initially received a report that 20-to-30 people were seen running from a boat. However, deputies think the actual number is not as high.
Air, ground and marine units are searching the area.
The Border Patrol, Jupiter Island police and Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission are taking part in the investigation.
The nationalities of the migrants was not disclosed.
