The Florida Highway Patrol has taken over the investigation into the death of a 55-year-old man who was killed Friday night by a hit-and-run driver near Vero Beach.
Daniel Letts of Vero Beach was walking in the northbound lanes of Southwest 20th Avenue near Southwest 1st Place around 9 p.m. when he was struck by an unknown vehicle.
The driver of that vehicle never stopped and continued north on 20th Avenue.
A second vehicle, driven by Carol Decosa, also struck Letts.
Letts was pronounced dead on the scene.
The crash remains under investigation.
