A deadly fire in California has scorched thousands of acres killing several people.

Now firefighters with the Florida Forest Service are mobilizing, including several from the Okeechobee and Everglades Districts.

"Looks pretty devastating," said Raymond Kirkland with the Florida Forest Service.

He see's the images and remembers previous trips west.

"Out there they have high winds so that's definitely an issue," said Kirkland.

Brian Torres has been trying to come to grips with what firefighters are dealing with.

"Over there I can't imagine just evacuating all those people," said Torres.

Both Raymond and Brian will make themselves available in the next few weeks. That means if they get the call, they must go help.

Protecting lives and homes for them near and far is what's most important.

"We had individuals come and help us out so one hand helps the other so I'd like to go out there and give it back," said Torres.
