Lawmakers are keeping a close eye on Zika, especially after the first travel-related case was discovered in Palm Beach County this week.
U.S. Rep. Patrick Murphy met with a research team in Jupiter studying the virus.
Rep. Murphy toured a laboratory at the Scripps Research Institute.
He met with scientists developing a vaccine to combat Zika.
Scientists say what's most concerning about the virus is that it can penetrate the placenta.
"We are strongly committed to making a potent antibody that can be used safely in pregnant women," said Michael Farzan, an immunology and microbial science professor.
"We are all very concerned about this potential outbreak," said Congressman Murphy. "We want to make sure our local scientists around the country are doing all the research possible."
