Monday is Presidents Day, which means that anyone who planned on running errands today may find some essential services closed for the federal holiday.

Presidents Day was originally established in 1885 in recognition of the nation's first commander-in-chief, President George Washington.

Commonly referred to as "Washington's Birthday," Presidents Day also celebrates all U.S. presidents past and present.

The holiday means a number of closures across South Florida and the Treasure Coast:

Here's what's CLOSED for the holiday:

  • Public schools closed
  • All federal offices
  • County offices in Palm Beach, St. Lucie
  • Palm Beach County clerk offices
  • Post office
  • Public libraries
  • Most financial institutions (check with your individual bank for details)

Here's what's OPEN for the holiday:

  • Shopping malls and grocery stores
  • County offices in Martin and Okeechobee
  • All state offices
  • Trash pickup is normal except for Lake Park and Boca Raton where it will be picked up Tuesday
  • Tri-Rail (normal weekday schedule)
