WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. — The West Palm Beach Police Department has recognized a WPTV investigative reporter for her excellence and contributions to journalism in South Florida.

On Wednesday, Police Chief Frank Adderley presented Sam Smink with a Certificate of Appreciation for her outstanding service to the city and West Palm Beach Police Department.

"She has been nothing but a true community partner with us," said Chief Adderley. "We definitely came here in this city and we were looking for partnerships, and she was one of the first that we met."

Chief Adderley also presented Smink with a commemorative coin from the West Palm Beach Police Department.

Smink, who started at WPTV in 2016, is moving to WHDH-TV in Boston as an investigative reporter.

During her time at WPTV, Smink covered a variety of critical topics including staffing shortages at the Florida Department of Children and Families, changes to Florida's Voluntary Pre-Kindergarten program, the Jeffrey Epstein sex trafficking case, and the Robert Kraft prostitution case.

Before working at WPTV, Smink was an investigative reporter at WINK-TV in Fort Myers, Florida, and WETM-TV in Elmira, New York.
