West Palm police organize food giveaway

The West Palm Beach Police Department is reaching out to help people in need.

Officers are organizing a massive food giveaway for this weekend.

It will be held in Gaines Park Saturday morning from nine to noon.

It's called a Farm Share because the police department has teamed up with local farmers to give out fresh, heathy food to families who need it.

There will be enough to send bags of food home with the first 1,200 families who come by.

"You never know what goes on in a person’s household and there are people who actually need, need food.  And there are so many local farmers here that have plenty of food to just give, that's why I touched base with some of the farmers to see how they can give back to the community," said West Palm Beach Police Officer Covelle Padgett.

Anyone looking to receive food just needs to bring an ID and prove they live in West Palm Beach.
