The West Palm Beach Police Department along with Vickers House, Target, and the West Palm Beach Police Foundation held its 7th annual Shop With A Cop event Wednesday afternoon.

This year's event is giving a Christmas to 260 kids in the area who otherwise wouldn't have presents to open this season.

"It’s not like they are shopping with a police officer. Sometimes, they are just so excited to be shopping," said Chief Sarah Mooney of the West Palm Beach Police Department.

Families are preregistered before arriving to Target for the event.

However, once inside they go on a shopping spree with a police officer and then check out at the register before heading to another area to get their gifts wrapped.

"It’s so heartwarming to see them happy," said Officer Rade Momirovich.

Chief Mooney said everyone in the department looks forward to this event each year. Often times they get to catch up with kids and their families who they shopped with in previous years.

"Listening to what they're saying as you’re shopping with them, and the people that they are shopping for and the things they are excited about, being able to purchase for other people, it just overall has that giving feeling to the Christmas time," said Chief Mooney.
