'Tent site' back on the market in West Palm

A high profile property in downtown West Palm Beach is back on the market. However, there is an issue that could get in the way of a sale with pedestrian safety.

The property is located in a corridor with heavy traffic flow surrounded by a busy Okeechobee Boulevard.

Nearby neighbors hope whatever is built at the site, it doesn't make walkability issues even worse.

Ed Godziszewski of West Palm Beach walks his dog around the 'tent site' every day. It received its name after a circus-type tent was erected on the site to house models of a condo once planned on the property.

"It's going to bring more congestion, more people coming down here."

Those kinds of concerns are why the city is taking its time to fill this heavily sought after property.

Jon Ward with the city's Community Redevelopment Agency says he and his staff are looking for developers with experience building at sites such as this one. Areas that have traffic and pedestrian issues.

"We're not interested in somebody just coming in and adding to the traffic and adding to the density, without also having some good creative ideas about how to deal with the challenges as well," says Ward.

Ward says office space or maybe a hotel could come to the site. The Community Redevelopment Agency will discuss the property Monday.
