WPB business cleans up after overnight break in

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla-- A West Palm Beach business owner is picking up the pieces Monday after an overnight burglary took a toll on everything he’s worked for.

Daniel Ekerold owns the Palm Beach Wellness Studio just off Belvedere and Old Dixie Highway.

However, his wellness studio has been in better shape.

“They used that boulder. You can see that’s where it marked," said Ekerold.

His sense of security was shatters along with the glass door to his business.

"Never in a million years did i think this would happen."

While some of the valuables were spared, Daniel says this crime will cost him thousands of dollars.

“Really get your security up because you never know, it could happen to anyone of these stores,” said Ekerold.

As a new business owner Daniel thought he could save money by skipping the security system.

But he now realizes that decision ended up costing him more.

It’s a lesson not lost on Joseph Clark, who owns Sushi Jo and Jo Bistro just a few storefronts down.

“I felt pretty bad when I saw the glass on the floor," said Clark.

Joseph takes security into his own hands with both cameras and alarms, especially after he had a break in about 4 years ago. Daniel and Joseph agree a crime like this can take a toll, but it won’t stop their efforts to revitalize the community.

“It’s just part of being a business owner,” said Clark. “Little things like this don’t set you back, it makes you stronger.”

The West Palm Beach Police Department says it is investigating the crime. Ekerold hopes some of the surveillance cameras on the street may help identify whoever is responsible.
