Verdict in the trial of a WPB man who killed his girlfriend with a machete

A West Palm Beach man charged with killing his girlfriend, learns his fate in court Friday.

A jury found Youvens Madeus guilty of first-degree murder.

Horacia Simeus died two years ago after police say her boyfriend attacked her with a machete. She was in the process of filing a new restraining order against her boyfriend.

Family members cried in court as the verdict was read. One of them writing a letter about the pain of losing her.

Her brother Dominique Simeus said,  "She was magnificent, she was radiant, she was beautiful, she had a lot of potential but unfortunately the world did not have a chance to see her."

The judge sentenced Madeus to life in prison without the chance of parole.
