Nicole Boger says she used to take her kids trick-or-treating.
"We only go to the doors of the homes that we know. The kids that my kids play with and the parents that I know."
She says she had safety measures in place when her kids would go trick or treating.
"I think the number one thing is be with your kids and go up and knock on the door," added Boger.
The West Palm Beach Police Department also wants the community safe. Not just on Halloween, but throughout the year. Detective Cathy Cognetti says it's a monthly routine checking on sexual offenders and predators. If they are not following the guidelines,
"We give them a copy of the West Palm Beach ordinance. And we inform them that the have to leave because they are within 1500 feet of a school, playground, bus stop, or a day care center," said the detective.
Some parents may not know the rules that are in place, especially for Halloween.
"If sexual offenders and sexual predators are not on probation, they can partake in Halloween festivities. They are allowed to decorate their home for Halloween and pass out candy."
For parents who are concerned, they can check out the FDLE website for a list of offenders and predators living near their family.
"It's always important to know who your neighbors are, by checking out these websites that give you all of the information."
