Fires cause setbacks to Northwood neighborhood

Posted

People who live in the north end of West Palm Beach are working to spruce up their community and reduce the number of eyesores on each block.

However, recent fires are causing a setback to their plans.

Before a home recently went up in flames, there were 121 boarded up homes in the Northwood area.  Now the burned house makes 122.

Northwood residents have taken the time to document and snap a picture of the abandoned homes in their community, including other burned out houses.

The goal is to get the neighborhood rehabilitated and clean up homes that some may consider eyesores.

Northwood resident Carl Flick says recent fires counter their efforts.

"What happens with the structures is when they get burned out, they get demolished.  And once something gets demolished in this area, they are gone forever," said Flick.

Police said two of the fires are being investigated as arson, but they don’t think they are related.
