Rabid raccoon bites woman in West Palm Beach

A rabid raccoon bit a woman this week in West Palm Beach, according to the Florida Department of Health.

The animal was acting aggressively before the attack and had chased people near Palm Beach Lakes Boulevard and I-95, the Health Department said.

The animal was killed with a shovel and after testing came back positive for rabies.

The victim has begun a series of rabies shots.

This is the second confirmed rabid animal this year in Palm Beach County, according to the Health Department.

Residents living near Palm Beach Lakes Boulevard and I-95 are urged to avoid contact with any wild animals.
