PALM BEACH COUNTY, Fla. — Members of law enforcement and the community gathered for an important cause Friday evening.
Family of fallen heroes joined current first responders at the Palm Beach County Annual Peace Officers Memorial to pay respect to officers who made the ultimate sacrifice.
"You don't have to be a family member to be touched by what happens here tonight, everyone is moved, it's a very somber moment, " said David Lefont with the West Palm Beach Police Department.
They want to make sure their loved ones are never forgotten.
"This is to memorialize my father. I was 3 when he died in the line of duty and this is a chance for our family and friends to honor him and memorialize him so he's never forgotten," said Elizabeth Diebel, whose father was killed in the line of duty.
WPTV NewsChannel 5's Erika Rakow had the honor of speaking at the ceremony.
Next week is National Police Week, when officers will be recognized around the country.
