Decorations were going up Thursday at Chimp islands in Lion Country Safari, getting ready to celebrate Melody the chimp's 48th birthday.
Primate Director Tina Cloutier Barbour says, "She's a really fantastic chimp so we definitely wanted to do something fun for her birthday, so we had this little birthday celebration."
They staff sang "Happy Birthday to you! You look like a monkey, and you smell like one too!"
The chimps seemed to be laughing and jumping around.
What does Melody like on her birthday?
With the help of a chimp translator, Melody said she loves popcorn.
Even though it was HER birthday, she was nice enough to share with some of her roommates.
"Her favorite thing is a Lion Country Safari windbreaker, it has to be a very specific type of jacket," Barbour says.
Born at the Baltimore Zoo, Melody came to live at Lion Country Safari way back in 1972. She's one of the oldest chimps there.
Melody is diabetic, so there was no cake on the menu, just avocados and popcorn.
