Local teen gets opportunity to go to engineering summer program at Yale

Ricardo Greene is an amazing student.

"It wasn't until I got into high school that I had a passion for engineering," he says.

Ricardo's passion for engineering is now a reality.

The 16 year-old Forest Hill High School student will spend a week at Yale University's summer program.

It's a leadership conference where teens will learn about different engineering fields.

"I like math and science. I don't find it hard at school. but when it comes to engineering i like the hands on work. The building, the math, how it all comes together to make it your way," Ricardo says.

Ricardo likes an engineering challenge, but recently his family faced a different challenge.

They needed a place to live.

His mother Dissrie Fowler said, "We had our own business and the economy tanked and the economy went down and we went down with it."

They found refuge with The Lord's Place. "Without them, we could not be where we are at now," she says.

The organization noticed Ricardo's talent, submitting his name for the Yale program.

Melissa Jenkins with The Lord's Place said, "This will help him to aspire a dream and be that engineer that he keeps talking about. and that way his future will be set and he just actually say wow, I can actually see myself doing it."

Ricardo can't wait to go in July. "This is really huge and never thought me going to Yale one of the best schools in the country," he says.
