A South Florida filmmaker, who has already won local accolades, has big dreams of one day winning a Golden Globe award.

Matt Florio hopes it's just the beginning of a successful career as a filmmaker.

After graduating from college, and landing a business job, he decided he wanted to pursue writing films. He considers 2003 a turning point in his life.

"I was wondering where my life was going, and then I just started writing funny stuff as ideas," said Florio.

His family and friends liked his comedy writing, which led to Florio competing to be a part of a Doritos Super Bowl commercial. He also writes short films.

"It turned into sketch comedy, it turned into stand up, it turned into acting.  All this is, still up to this day, a way to try and get people to read my scripts, to meet people to put into my scripts," said Florio.

His short film "Mama Needs A Ride" won best local film last year at the Palm Beach International Film Festival.

"I guess when you do win something, It opens up doors because you're walking around with an award at a party and people are talking to you," said Florio.
