A South Florida lawmaker is rallying around the countless children who are youth caregivers.

Congresswoman Lois Frankel hosted a roundtable discussion Wednesday with local teens who care for an ill parent, grandparent or sibling.

Caring for a sick family member impacts teen caregivers.

A local organization which helps youth caregivers says as kids care for a family member, they're also trying to go school or participate in sports.

"They mirror what adult family caregivers do, so they give medications, they do personal care. They bathe, they feed, they dress," said Connie Siskowski who is founder of the American Association of Caregiving Youth.

"They deserve to have some normalcy. And they also deserve to have a great future which means being able to get through school. So I'm going to be back in Washington and I'm going to look to see how I can help them out," said Democratic Congresswoman Lois Frankel.
