Is it safe to stay in my apartment or condo during a storm?

The answer is: It depends on the storm.

Karen Mazurek manages a condominium in downtown West Palm Beach.

"When it's a hurricane-- we're in an evacuation zone," she said.

"We inform our residents of the storm and we properly prepare," Mazurek added.

"We suggest everyone have a strong water supply, food supply and have a generator that works for about 48 hours," she said.

"We strongly recommend everyone to evacuate if needed. If they choose to weather out the storm we suggest they have any medical needs taken care of before it hits," she added.

"First and foremost, we ask everyone to leave," she concluded.

She said the building staff prepare for the storm as well, cleaning out local drainage systems and putting out sandbags to prevent flooding.
