Help Jack the Bike Man by attending a glamorous event

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla.-- Usually, a good deed is just that: one singular act.  Every special once in a while, it grows and expands and takes on a life of its own.

Decades ago, Jack Hairston sparked a series of events that would forever change the lives of countless adults and children.

"I repaired one bike for a young kid in my neighborhood because he fell off of it and his brakes was broken," he said last year.

In the years that followed, he became known as “Jack the Bike Man,” a moniker he attributes to WPTV NewsChannel 5.   He has lost count of the number of bikes he’s helped to repair and give away, but he knows it’s in the tens of thousands.  Hundreds of children will line up at once.

Since then Hairston who is better known as 'Jack the Bike Man' has given away thousands of bikes to kids in need.  Hundreds of children will line up at one time in hopes of riding away on two wheels. Every year the need grows, and so do the bikes and helmets he gives.

He has helped underprivileged kids, the homeless, people reentering society from prison, recovering addicts in halfway houses and people living below the poverty line.

While the effort has been going on for 27 years, the non-profit is now 11-years-old.

On December 15, you can join Jack the Bike Man for an 11th Anniversary Celebration Party to help raise funds to benefit the programs offered at Jack the Bike Man, which include Character Counts, Christmas Giveaway, Gotta Get a Bike, Earn a Bike, Bicycle Donations and Bicycle Registration.

The lively benefit on December 15th will be held at a private club on Palm Beach, complete with cocktails, seafood buffet, live music and dancing.  WPTV NewsChannel 5 Anchor Ashleigh Walters will serve as the MC.

There will be an array of drool-worthy auction items that evening, including 8 vacation packages across the globe: a 007 secret hideaway in Switzerland, a trip to the islands of Greece, a journey to castles of Ireland and more.  There will also be a live auction of a custom 4-passenger golf cart by Southeast Custom Carts Inc. among many other items.
