Peggy Adams Animal Rescue was closed Wednesday after a fatal single-vehicle wreck outside of its entrance.

According to the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office, the wreck occurred at 5:24 p.m. Tuesday.

A 2005 Mercedes was traveling southbound on Military Trail and lost control, driving through the median and into the northbound lanes.

The car then went onto the eastern sidewalk and shoulder before hitting a chain link fence and water utility pipes. The wreck also damaged the water main at the animal rescue.

The driver, whose name has not been released, was removed from the vehicle and given medical assistance but later died at the scene.

Repairs are currently underway.

The animal rescue was back open Thursday morning.
