WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. — Emma Chopin, a sixth-grade student at Rosarian Academy in West Pam Beach, is competing in the Scripps National Spelling Bee.
Emma she says she has studied more than 1,000 words and spends hours spelling with her grandmother.
"The way I really find words is if I'm reading a page of a book and I see a hard word. I'll remember that word or if my grandma sees words when she's reading something, she'll send them to me or ask me them," said Emma.
The spellers will complete the written portion on Monday.
The preliminary rounds begin Tuesday.
Finalists will be announced Wednesday night.
