The death of actor Luke Perry, who passed away after a massive stroke at 52, surprised many people.

Tim Nickey was among those shocked by the news: "Surprised, he was young.

Dr. Muneer Hassan at St. Mary's Medical Center says a stroke can happen to anyone at any age. "We have seen people that are much younger than that have a stroke."
Dr. Hassan says some people are more at risk than others. "Hypertension, diabetes, tobacco use, obesity and these are modifiable that people can reduce the risk of a stroke."

There are warning signs to watch for at any age. The American Heart Association recommends using the acronym F.A.S.T. to remember how to catch the warning signs of a stroke:

Face is drooping.

Arms are weak.

Speech difficulty.

Time to call 911.

"Hypertension, diabetes, tobacco use, obesity and these are modifiable that people can reduce the risk of a stroke." Dr. Hassan says.
