Two people are dead after a car crashed into a tree in Wellington Monday morning.

The crash happened at the intersection of Sunnydale Drive and Polo Club Road at 3:25 a.m. Monday in Wellington.

Investigators say Andres Rodriguez was driving a Porsche Roadster, when he "failed to negotiate a curve in the road" and traveled off the road and into a concrete pillar.

Rodriguez was taken to Delray Medical Center.

The passenger, 30-year old Sophie Walker, died at the scene according to investigators.

According to Rodriguez's social media accounts, he died a few hours after the crash.

According to PBSO, drugs or alcohol may have played a role in the crash.

Those who know the two involved say they were friends and also newlyweds.

Jack Mancini knew both of the people involved in the crash.

He says Sophie just got married last year, and Andres got married last month.

He says the equestrian community is grieving right now about what happened.

"This is a really close community-- the equestrian community. We all feel when someone gets hurt. When someone has a problem everybody gets involved," Jack says.

Andres, he says, was an internationally known show jumper and had aspirations of going to the Olympics and representing his native Venezuela.

He says athletes like Andres are very involved in the community, despite their fame and fortune.

"They're incredible athletes and they're so accessible to the community-- in the grocery store. Or they're here at the horse show and a child comes up to them and asks them a question-- they're always there," he says.
