Tuesday night the people of Riviera Beach showed up for the fourth special public meeting in three weeks addressing chronic problems with the city's water. \

It's a story our Contact 5 investigators first broke back on April 21. Since then the executive director of the city's water utility has been fired and the city manager is serving a 30 day suspension.

Chronic problems with low chlorine levels and positive bacteria tests go back at least as far as 2010 according to public records from the Department of Health.

So far the city of Riviera Beach has been hit with at least $30,000 in fines from the department of health as a result, but city leaders claim they were completely in the dark until our investigation aired.

During the first three special public meetings to discuss the issue, hundreds of Riviera Beach residents lined up to voice their anger over the situation and how city leaders handled it.

Mayor Thomas Masters says he wanted Tuesday's meeting to be all about the people. He removed time limits on public comment allowing residents to voice all of their concerns and get all of their questions answered.

The acting city manager also gave an update on the city's water system and what is being done to correct existing problems.

The city commission says it is still looking to hire a private firm to come in and investigate the cause of the water problems and how it stayed concealed for so long.
