Palm Beach County Sheriff Ric Bradshaw is using social media to raise awareness of the police officers around the nation who have lost their lives this week.

The sheriff's office posted the message on Twitter and Facebook Friday.

The sheriff's office posted that in 4 days, 5 police officers were killed in the line of duty.

"When you leave your house in the morning or at night, and you kiss your wife and kids goodbye, you may not come back. That's the reality of the job. You may not come back. And with the number of firearms out here, the number of violent crimes that are taking place, that's a reality. We handle over a million calls for service last year, that's a lot of time for bad things to happen,” Sheriff Ric Bradshaw said.

According to the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund, more officers have died this year involving firearms compared to the same time last year.
