PALM BEACH COUNTY, Fla. — New clues have been revealed in a nearly 16-year-old cold case homicide in Palm Beach County.

The Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office released a new sketch Tuesday of a man identified as Maritime John Doe.

Detectives said he was found floating in the Atlantic Ocean, approximately five miles east of the Boynton Beach Inlet, on Sept. 7, 2003.

PBSO's Violent Crimes Division is investigating his death as a homicide.

An autopsy did not reveal any trauma to his body, and the cause of death is unknown. PBSO said the unidentified man may have entered the water in Miami-Dade or Broward Counties.

The Sheriff's Office said the man had a maritime-style tattoo on his right forearm, and they're hoping someone knows its origin or meaning.

Maritime John Doe is described as:

  • 6'1"
  • 175 lbs.
  • Reddish-brown hair
  • Hazel eyes
  • At least 65 years old

If you know who he is, call Detective John Cogburn at 561-688-4063, or Crime Stoppers of Palm Beach County at 1-800-458-TIPS.
