Stabbing victim at naturist resort recovering

Posted

The Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office continues its investigation into a stabbing at Sunsport Gardens Naturist Resort in Loxahatchee.

The incident happened Sunday morning.

Right now, detectives don't have a motive or suspect information.

Morley Schloss is the general manager of the resort.

He says the victim was an 18-year-old girl traveling alone from Georgia to Key West.

"She was just stopping in for one night to camp," he says.

Morley says she came in Saturday night and attended a dance with other guests at the resort.

On Sunday morning, he says, she was taking a walk on the nature trail when someone attacked her.

"I've been living here seventeen years. We've never had an act of violence. It's really a calm, safe place. So this is a real aberration," he says.

The victim was taken to an area hospital. Morley says she's well enough to be released on Tuesday.

"The most important part is that she's doing well and there are no serious injuries," he says.

On Sunday, deputies with PBSO searched on the ground and in the air with their helicopter for the person behind the attack.

Karin Ward says she heard the chopper from her home nearby.

"It's so secluded here. Anyone can hide in the bushes there," she says.

Right now, detectives aren't sure if the attacker was already staying at the resort or was able to sneak onto the property.

They believe the attacker was a teenager.
