WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (AP) — The operator of a slaughterhouse in Palm Beach County has been fined $75,000 for inhumanely killing pigs.

Court records show that 53-year-old Victor Gonzalez was sentenced last week. He previously pleaded guilty to violating the Humane Methods of Slaughter Act.

Gonzalez will also serve three years of probation, during which he won't be allowed to work in meat-slaughtering.

Court records say Gonzalez had oversaw day-to-day operations as the president of El Milagro Nursery in Loxahatchee.

During a December 2016 inspection of the facility, federal officers reported the premises lacked proper, operable equipment to stun or otherwise render the animals insensible to pain, as required by law.
