Mom has message for ATV/bike riders after son's horrific crash

Many have shared their frustrations on social media about people on motorcycles, dirt bikes, ATVs weaving in and out of traffic. A young man riding his mini bike with a group of riders Sunday learned a hard lesson after riding into an oncoming traffic lane.

Di Ante Robinson, 21, is seen on video riding his bike into the northbound traffic lane on North Dixie Highway in Lantana. Moments later, he's knocked off his bike and severely injured when he collided with a pickup truck. The video, going viral on social media, shows a large group of riders across the lanes, driving into the lane for oncoming traffic.

"I warned him, I felt like a gloom that day and I didn't know that was going to come to me," said Dorothy Ingraham, Di Ante's mother.

Ingraham said she has tried to talk her son out of riding. She said she knows what happened Sunday is his fault and it will change his life forever. She said doctors at St. Mary's Medical Center do not think his left leg can be saved.

"I just feel sorry for him. He's young and whatever happens in the outcome, you know, he gotta live with it," added Ingraham.

The driver of the truck that collided with Di Ante did not want to be identified but said he tried to avoid the hit.

"A bunch, a group of motorcycles coming down the other way and they were swerving in and out of the lanes and at the last second I saw this little bike, I swerved at the last second," said the driver.

Videos of large groups of bikers swerving in and out of lanes have been shared on Palm Beach County Community Facebook pages, some riding bikes that are not street legal.

"I think all of them shouldn't be riding the bike not just him, it just happening to him," said Ingraham.

The driver of the truck told me feels for the young man's mother and his family, but said this could have been prevented.

"This is the consequence he gets for careless action," said the driver.

The video shows riders scattered when police arrived. Di Ante was the only rider cited in the crash. The driver feels there's nothing more police can do to enforce the law.

"The police already have enough with the responsibilities they have to deal with," added the driver.

Ingraham's message is not for parents, because she said her son is an adult and was making his own decisions, it's for the groups of riders.

"Be responsible, be safe," she said.

We did reach out to the Lantana Police Department for more information on whether any other riders will be cited and are waiting to hear back.
