LANTANA, Fla. — The Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office said alcohol likely played a factor in a single-vehicle crash that killed a Lantana man Sunday afternoon.
The wreck happened at 1:44 p.m. on Congress Avenue south of Lantana Road.
A 2000 four-door Lincoln driven by Jose Marbin Velasquez Alvarado, 41, of Lantana, was southbound on Congress Avenue from Lantana Road in the outside lane.
PBSO said the vehicle left the road and the right-side tires entered the grass shoulder on the west side of the road.
Alvarado accelerated and lost control of the car, over corrected and traveled in the southeast direction.
The car then struck and mounted the center median, hitting a palm tree. Alvarado was pronounced dead at the scene.
