Donations needed for PBC Memorial Day tradition

Posted

A military non-profit needs your help again this Memorial Day.

Last year, Flags for Fallen Vets placed miniature American flags on every grave site at the South Florida National Cemetery in suburban Lake Worth. It was the first time the cemetery had flags for Memorial Day.

The organization wants to keep the tradition going again this year.

Organizers say they need donations to make it happen. They’ll need between $3,000 and $4,000 to pay for replacement flags, storage, and logistical requirements.

“This is the reason why we celebrate Memorial Day,” said Benito Avendano pointing to white grave markers at the national cemetery. “It’s to celebrate the lives and sacrifices of all the men and women in the military.”

Avendano is in the Air Force Reserves and helps organize the event locally for the national non-profit.

The group has enough volunteers to set up the flags on May 29, but will need help collecting them on June 4 at 9:00 a.m. You do not need to sign up.
