PALM BEACH COUNTY, Fla-- The Florida Department of Law Enforcement has just released its findings from an investigation into a local juvenile detention facility.
The investigation started last summer at the request of the Department of Juvenile Justice. The DJJ asked the FDLE to investigate the Palm Beach Juvenile Correctional Facility after allegations of mismanagement and wrong-doing surfaced.
According to the report, the FDLE investigated several different incidents reported at the facility.
The incidents were related to fights and injuries, many of which NewChannel5 reported.
The FDLE interviewed County Commissioner Shelley Vana related to some of the initial allegations, according to the report.
The FDLE determined that only one of the incidents could have been criminal in nature. That incident was a June 2015 fight when two guards apparently allowed two inmates to fight.
The guards were later fired.
However, the State Attorney's Office decided not to prosecute the case saying there was not enough evidence or cooperating witnesses.
During the investigation, Youth Services International, the private company running the juvenile facility at the time, decided to terminate its contract.
A company called Sequel TSI is now running the facility.
