24 new bus stop seats coming to Palm Beach County

Palm Tran, Palm Beach County’s public transportation system, plans to install 24 new bus stop seats at high-ridership locations without the amenities of a bench or shelter.

The innovative design developed by Simme-Seat includes two seats that attach directly to the bus stop pole.

Palm Tran says the seats are durable, safe and cost-effective. Aside for the comfort benefits to the rider, drivers say the seats will help them see riders waiting at the stop.

The program is being funded by a federal grant and could serve 23,000 riders a month.

A ceremony is being held Monday, Oct. 3 to unveil the first stop. It is being installed at the Linton Square Plaza at the Presidente Supermarket 1565 S. Congress Ave. in Delray Beach. The ceremony begins at 10:30 a.m.
