MARTIN COUNTY, Fla. — Florida’s toxic algae algae problem is likely to be a major issue once again in 2019.

On New Year's Eve, Emily Mauri is feeling optimistic about what she’s sees lately.

"Our water is cleaning up," said Mauri.

She has voiced her frustration all year long with the water issues plaguing the Treasure Coast.

So as we turn the page from 2018 to 2019, Emily is on a mission.

"Go to Denver, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Atlanta," said Mauri. "Super excited."

She will embark on a trip across the country to speak at fly fishing shows and possibly meet with lawmakers to discuss water issues.

She wants to try and get federal support to fix the problems, not only in Florida, but around the country.

"Connect with people in other states that have the same, similar issues that we have in Florida," said Mauri.

She hopes maybe this time next year she’s talking about how we solved our crisis.

"It’s a dream," said Mauri. "I hope we will see."
