A political newcomer scored a major upset victory in Tuesday's runoff election for Boynton Beach mayor. Steven Grant, 33, ousted five-term incumbent Mayor Jerry Taylor, who is 80.
Grant won by a margin of 635 votes in the city, where just 4,459 voters cast ballots.
Grant is a lawyer who served on the city's financial advisory board.
In Jupiter, former mayor Karen Golonka lost her bid for a seat on the town council when she was beaten by a nearly 2-1 vote by Wayne Posner, who has served on the the town's planning and zoning commission.
Posner received 2,730 votes to Golonka's 1,643.
There will be a recount in the Riviera Beach District 1 Council race between incumbent Bruce Guyton and challenger Lynne Hubbard, a former council member. Numbers from Tuesday show that Guyton won the District 1 seat by one vote, 1,741 to 1,740. However, there will be an automatic recount on Thursday.
In the runoff for the District 3 seat, Tonya Davis Johnson, who heads the Palm Beach County Office of Small Business Assistance, edged out legislative aide Sylvia Lee Blue. The vote was 1,889 to 1,583.
In Pahokee Clara "Tasha" Murvin defeated Herbert Crawford Jr. for a seat on the city commission. The vote was 319 to 252.
