PALM BEACH COUNTY, Fla. — There were two separate vehicle accidents, one being fatal, in the area of US Highway 27 and Mutt Thomas Road near the Hendry County line on Wednesday morning.
Palm Beach County Fire Rescue (PBCFR) responded to the area of Mutt Thomas Road and US 27 at around 5:50 a.m. for a two-vehicle crash involving a semi-truck and a passenger vehicle. The passenger vehicle rolled over and the truck's engine compartment caught on fire.
Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office (PBSO) says the driver of a 2022 Nissan Altima lost control while traveling northbound on US 27, and crossed over the median into the path of a semi-truck going southbound on US 27. The driver was ejected from the vehicle during the collision.
The driver of the Nissan Altima, identified as Natalie Leavy, 29, was pronounced dead on the scene. The semi driver, identified as Wigberto Figueroa, did not sustain any injuries.
PBSO will be investigating the crash.
PBCFR units then responded at 10:15 a.m. to US27 between Mutt Thomas Road and Corkscrew Road for another crash involving a semi-truck rolling over towards the canal bank. No injuries were reported.
There have been delays in that area of US 27 all morning and will continue until both scenes have been investigated and cleared.
