SAN DIEGO, CA (KGTV) -- Parishioners tackled a woman who reportedly walked into a Clairemont church Sunday morning holding a gun and a baby, police say.

The incident happened on the 4300 block of Mt. Everest Boulevard at Mt. Everest Academy.

According to police, the woman walked into the church with a handgun and a baby.

The woman was reportedly tackled by parishioners and no one was injured.

The incident happened as police stepped up patrols at San Diego churches Sunday following blasts in Sri Lanka that left more than 200 dead and hundreds more injured.

San Diego Police Chief David Nisleit said in a tweet that the department decided to step up patrols out of an “abundance of caution.”

Mt. Everest Academy is an independent study school that serves grades K-12.
