(CNN) - Authorities say a man who broke out of prison nearly 50 years ago is now in custody.
Robert Stackowitz was sentenced to 17 years for robbery by force in 1968.
However, he escaped while in the infirmary at the Carroll County prison work camp southwest of Atlanta.
He was on the run for around 48 years.
The U.S. Marshals Service said in a statement that investigators discovered an address in Sherman, Conn., that was linked to an alias of Stackowitz
They acted on the information and took him into custody.
Stackowitz is now in jail in Connecticut awaiting extradition back to Georgia.
