The daughter of former President Ronald Reagan has a message for Donald Trump: "Words matter."

Patti Davis responded to the GOP presidential nominee's suggestion Tuesday that "Second Amendment people" could maybe find a way to stop Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton from rolling back gun rights if she's elected.

Davis says on Facebook that while Trump's comments on Clinton were heard by "sane and decent people," they also were heard by someone "locked in his own dark fantasies," who "sees unbridled violence as a way to make his mark in the world."

Davis notes that her father, a Republican, "was shot by someone who got his inspiration from a movie."

John Hinckley said he was trying to impress actress Jodie Foster when he tried to assassinate Reagan in 1981.
