Rdio to end service after sale to Pandora

Posted

A shakeup is coming to the online music streaming business. Rdio will cease operations after selling its key assets to Pandora.

Pandora agreed to pay $75 million for Rdio's technology and intellectual property, according to an announcement made Tuesday.

As a result of the deal, Rdio will shut down — but it's not immediately clear when that will happen.

"Rdio's service will not be interrupted today," an Rdio spokesperson wrote in a blog post on Monday. "We will have more updates in the coming weeks on what this process means for your Rdio account, but for the time being the service continues unchanged."

Founded in 2010, Rdio offered an on-demand music streaming service, similar to businesses like Spotify and Apple Music.
