More shoppers stayed home, went online during Thanksgiving weekend

Posted

More people opted to stay home and shop online, rather than brave the stores during the long Thanksgiving weekend, according to data from the National Retail Federation.

The NRF’s 2015 “Black Friday Survey” found that 103 million adults planned to shop online at some point between Thursday and Sunday. Comparatively, 101.9 million adults planned to shop in stores.

Both numbers were slightly higher than the 93.9 million people who planned to not shop at all during the deal-heavy weekend.

The study revealed that men slightly preferred shopping in stores, compared to women — while more women planned to shop online than the men surveyed.

The NRF’s research also found that Cyber Monday shopping may not be a totally mainstream practice yet, but it’s getting close. Of all adults surveyed, 49.5 percent planned to shop online during Cyber Monday, while 50.5 percent said they wouldn’t.
