A magnitude 6.5 earthquake has been recorded near the California-Nevada border, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The USGS originally reported the magnitude at 6.4, but later upgraded its strength. Several aftershocks have also hit the area.

The nearest town to the quake's epicenter is Tonopah, which is about 35 miles to the west.

The epicenter is located about a four-hour drive south of Carson City.

It's currently unclear if there were any injuries or damage to buildings in the area.
