Keurig recalls millions of MINI Plus brewers

Posted

Keurig Green Mountain, Inc., makers of the popular K-Cup coffee brewing systems, have announced a recall on millions of their machines in the United States and Canada after reports of a burn hazard.

A defect to the Keurig MINI Plus Brewing System has resulted in at least 90 reports of burn-related injuries and 200 reports of hot water spraying from the machine, according to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission.

The affected units were those purchased prior to July 2014, according to a letter from Keurig.

"Owners of affected MINI Plus Brewers can register to obtain a free repair kit which will resolve the potential issue," the letter reads. "Users can continue to use their MINI Plus brewers while waiting for their free repair kit. Out of an abundance of caution, we recommend that users avoid brewing more than two cups in rapid succession, and maintain an arm’s length distance from the brewer during the brewing process."

The CPSC estimates that 6.6 million units will be affected in the U.S., and another 564,000 in Canada.
