May is bicycle safety month and one of the keys to staying safe while riding a bicycle is wearing a helmet.
Experts say a bike helmet shouldn't move around too much on the head and should feel snug.
If a helmet moves a lot when shaking your head, it is too loose.
It should be level and rest about an inch above the eyebrows to cover most of the forehead. If the forehead isn't covered, a larger helmet might be necessary.
Fitting a bike helmet will probably take about 10 to 15 minutes, so be patient. A helmet can prevent 85 percent of head and brain injuries.
Doctors recommend calling a local bicycle shop to assist with helmet fitting.
