Creator of iconic rainbow flag dies

The creator of the iconic and unifying rainbow flag has passed away.

A crowd in San Francisco gathered to mourn the loss of artist and civil rights activist Gilbert Baker.

He passed away of friday in new york at the age of 65 from natural causes.

Baker created the LGBTQ symbol back in 1978.

Long time friend Cleve Jones says he remembers reactions of those seeing it for the first time, "Their faces lit up and without any explanation at all, everyone knew immediately that this was now our flag."

City officials lowered the flag to half staff.

Mourners carried his final creation down the street, keeping the message to fight for equality alive.
